Project Overview

Foot plantar pressure information plays a crucial role in the biomechanical analysis of static and dynamic daily activities. At the base of the kinetic chain, the ground reaction force generated by the foot significantly influences the kinetics and kinematics of the lower limb joints, impacting walking and balance. Continuous measurement of foot pressure is essential for monitoring gait and balance, as well as for rehabilitation purposes. The gold standard for measuring foot pressure is the force platform, which, despite its high accuracy, has several drawbacks, such as high cost and platforms being restricted to laboratory settings, thus allowing for small and unnatural data collection. In recent decades, in-shoe foot pressure insoles have become a popular alternative to force platforms. These insoles are cost-effective, portable, and easy to use while facilitating unrestricted data collection in outdoor environments.
